I was diagnosed with bipolar II disorder at the age of 27. Living with a mental illness is a study in survival. Every day, every emotion is questioned. What is this? Am I happy or am I starting to head towards mania?

In December, I launched a global non-profit organization called The Siwe Project. It was named for Siwe Monsanto, the 15 year-old daughter of a good friend.

I’d known Siwe since she was 4 years old so I was aware of her ups and downs. But, it still came as a shock when in June 2011, she took her own life.

As a black woman, I understood the stigmas and shame that come with mental illness. I know that all cultures have issues dealing with and understanding mental illness, but I also know that the global black community has specific ways of dealing with illness, in that, we rarely deal with it. If at all.

Siwe was lucky to have an amazing mother who dedicated her life to helping her daughter but many aren’t so fortunate. The Siwe Project was born out of a need to help people like Siwe have a place to begin the conversation and tell their own stories.

My reasons for taking on this endeavor were also selfish, I needed a place to feel a sense of community as I manage my own illness. I was diagnosed with bipolar II disorder at the age of 27. I’d struggled for most of my life trying to understand who I was and why I couldn’t ever seem to get it together.

So i woke up to the news that the government has re-introduced the subsidy not at the initial rate of N65 or the deregulated rate at N141 , they have pegged it at N97, and the so called revolutionary leaders of the people have called off the strike and the federal government to show signs of peace deployed soldiers to the major cities.

For a second i thought of sending out a BB broadcast venting but decided to calm down and bite this bullet. So now i am calm :) Just thought i'd inform my fellow nigerians all around the world

NS has always been a semi conscious brand, in our own way we have kept it real and spoke our mind took a few jabs at the status quo and made a few profound statements. Not much for sugar coating things nor a diplomat, the situation on ground in nigeria is a mess.

The country can really be summed up as, a few fat rich greedy men playing with matches in a room full of gas and as dumb as they are they get bolder each time they strike the match n nothing happens.

Nigeria is a classic case of revolution waiting to happen, the only unfortunate thing is we have no true common enemy.

Again not a historian but revolutions are more effective when its one body against a common enemy. The shit thing about nigeria is its a FUCKING JUNGlE, there are way too many conflicts yet to happen that even if the people come together to fight the men with the big saw cutting the jungle down ,the lions will later kill the hyenas ,the snakes will eat the rat, the birds will shit on you, the monkeys will kill the guerillas and the crocodiles with eat the villagers, i am sure u get my drift.

The country needs to get back to a path of unity not just against tyrants but unity as one people

I agree we need to OFF about a 100000 folks about half should be televised. politicians/police men/bankers/govt officials/doctors/professors/Loads of Pastors n other religious leaders/african magic producers/a few nigerian artist actors included/.. infact i dont think there is any profession in nigeria that hasnt contributed to demise of a failed state. Some will get amnesty but no mercy should be shown to the rest.

what nigeria needs is one true tyrant and one good saint. The tyrant to lead the team of badass seals/snipers/bitches/accountants/grave diggers for a 1463 days mission to do u know what :) and on the 1464th day The Saint will snick up from the jungle and blow up the car carrying the tyrant and his effective but bad ass crew.

Voila a New Nigeria is born

But, the beautiful thing is that we as the people are coming together fighting for injustice, fighting for our rights, and fighting for our well being. We are uniting and we are enlightening ourselves. This is powerful.

Age 0 - Conception, here I am world

Crying as I am brought into this polluted world

The only remedy is my mother’s breasts

Age 5 - Everyone is my friend, everything is good, worries don’t exist

Sorrow is no where to be found

Pain is nonchalant, my friends are my all, and my all are my toys.

Age 11 - girls, girls, girls.

Age 16 - Heartbreaks, sex, a façade of love, melodramatic

Arrogance mixed with ignorance and finally diluted with hypocrisy.

Age 21- everything is bleak, all friends are gone but a few, insecurities exist

Pain is ubiquitous, sorrow is atmospheric, happiness is seldom

Life is questionable

But, In my darkest moments I find my inner light.

Age 24 – I find her, my soul mate, life has meaning

I find me, passion is my motto, and success ensues

In the cold winter I blossomed like a summer flower.

Age 50 - Family, son, daughter, completeness

Children are my everything

Summer patio nights reminiscing of my childhood

What did I lack? They get
